Your first trade
Park etiquette, the lanyard game, and what to avoid.
The park trading basics
Every Cast Member wearing a pin lanyard is a tradeable partner. The rules are simple, and every CM knows them:
• You may trade up to 2 pins per CM per day.
• You offer a pin, they offer one from their lanyard. No haggling — it is a 1-for-1 swap.
• The pin you offer must be a real Disney pin in good condition (no scrappers, no damage).
• You cannot refuse a completed trade. Look before you commit.
Lanyard types to know
Regular lanyards — CMs over 18. Standard trade pool.
Green lanyards — CMs under 18. They will only trade with guests 17 and under. If you are an adult, leave the green lanyards alone.
Special-event lanyards — themed pin drops during festivals. These have the freshest pins.
Etiquette that makes you a respected trader
Ask first, always: "Can I take a look at your lanyard?" Never grab or flip.
Be fast but thoughtful — don't hold up a line of guests.
Trade pins you would be happy to give up. Don't palm off scrappers you know are fake — that is the #1 way to get blocked from trading.
Thank them — park CMs get thousands of traders per week. A genuine "thank you" stands out.
What to avoid
Trading scrappers — even by accident. Learn to spot them first (see the scrapper guide).
Trading at guest-hostile moments (ride lines, dining, opening/closing).
Multi-pin "bargains" — one-for-one is the only sanctioned trade. Anything else is a gray area.
Collectors keep a separate pouch of inexpensive OE pins specifically to trade for Hidden Mickeys. Never trade your grail pins — keep a trading pool.
